First Church is:

A Spiritual Community.  First Church members come to church for “encouragement to spiritual growth” (our Unitarian Universalist third principle).  First Church is a model for the larger UU world of a thriving, multicultural, multilingual, urban congregation.

A Neighborhood Partner.  First Church serves the Koreatown/Westlake neighborhoods of Los Angeles with programs that address neighborhood needs. Our rooms are used for neighborhood meetings and events.  Our neighbors see our steeple as the center of their neighborhood.

A UU Cathedral.  First Church is a shared resource of the Unitarian Universalist faith in the greater Los Angeles area.  When Unitarian Universalists seek to work together on issues that are bigger than a single parish church they use the facilities of the largest, oldest and most centrally-located church: First Church.

A Justice Center.  First Church rents space in our building to non-profit organizations that further our goal of creating a “World Community of peace, liberty, and justice for all”  (our UU sixth principle).  First Church is known as the headquarters for social justice activism in Los Angeles.

Additional earlier text: First Unitarian Church of Los Angeles, is a vibrant spiritual community, committed to a multicultural, multilingual, urban ministry. We are a Justice Center, sharing our building with non-profit organizations that support our goal of a world community with peace, liberty and justice for all. We are a Unitarian Universalist Cathedral, using our historic centrally-located building as a gathering place for our denomination. And we are a neighborhood partner offering programs and classes and meeting space for our local area .
