In collaboration with Queens Care, elderly and chronically ill community members will be offered free vaccinations to protect against pneumonia. With the help of Hope Net, First Church's Award Winning Food Distribution Program has been providing food to the English, Spanish, and Korean speakers who live in the area for the last 15 years. And, for the first time, food recipients will be receiving some needed medical assistance. Translators who can help inform the mono-lingual Korean speakers are especially needed. If you can help contact rochelle@uula.org.
Progress on Mercy Housing Development
With the mortgage paid on the adjacent property, First Church is continuing to work with Mercy Housing to develop an affordable housing project for the community.
The Foundations of our Church are sound once again!
The structural beams under Channing Hall are now repaired. It took most of the Caroline Severance Endowment Fund to pay for the repairs but the building is in good shape and will survive another earth tremblor to maintain its presence in the community for at least another 81 years! Our job now is to replenish the endowment. The current Pledge Drive is demonstrating the membership's willingness to commit to doing just that.
Visioning
The Board of Directors, under the direction of our minister, Rev. Dr. Monica Cummings, is looking at the future: What is your vision of what First Church should be in 5 years? What are we as a congregation seeing as our mission? This is an invitation to you to write a brief statement sharing your dreams with others in our church family. Let's hear your voice.
